This week on Comes A Time percussion legend Bill Summers joins Oteil and Mike to talk about his spiritual process of becoming a priest, Bill’s incredible career as a drummer, and why you can never ask a question if you already know the answer. Bill also talks with the guys about the deep wounds of slavery in America, how winning a racehorse bet lead Bill to meet Herbie Hancock, and his decades-long connection with the city of New Orleans.

Bill Summers is a New Orleans based Afro-Cuban jazz/Latin jazz percussionist, who plays primarily on conga drums. He played with Los Hombres Calientes through the 90’s, and has since worked behind the scenes on film scores for various movies such as The Color Purple and the television miniseries Roots with Quincy Jones. He played with Herbie Hancock during The Headhunters years, and in this episode you’ll hear all about his incredible life of music and spirituality.
