Television, film and Broadway actor Brian D’Arcy James joins us to talk about two of his latest projects: a starring role in the Sondheim musical Into The Woods, currently on Broadway; and a major recurring role on Paramount+ series EVIL.
“I love the show, I love how bold it is, I love what it does with genre” James said of the series. “It really takes you places that are surprising which is hard to do these days. The appetite for this thing is pretty voracious and I think it’s because of how bold and imaginative that the Kings are with their storytelling. It’s great to be part of something that has such mystery behind it and really can go to extreme places.
“To play Victor LeConte as this mysterious cloak-and-dagger figure is a dream come true for me. I’m a big fan of spy shows and novels and to scratch the surface of that genre with this character is really, really fun.”
James first appeared in the series’ during the second season and worked with the late Peter Scolari who was a recurring character throughout the first two seasons before his untimely death. “That scene [in season two] that I did to set my character on its course was with Peter and I think very fondly of that,” he said of working with the Emmy-winning actor. “He was such a fixture on the show.”
You can see Brian D’Arcy James in the season finale of EVIL, available to stream on Paramount+. Into the Woods is currently in performances on Broadway at the St. James Theatre.
