Warner Bros. released Beetlejuice to theaters on March 30, 1988. Tim Burton directed the film starring Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, and Michael Keaton. Beetlejuice Movie Summary Nestled among rolling hills and towering trees sits a sleepy town in the countryside. It’s home to Adam and Barbara Maitland. They live an ideal life full of small-town model building and extreme bridge driving. However, the happy couple has no job to speak of. Their only goal is to have a child—preferably a preteen girl with the social skills of a rude, little pig. On a lovely afternoon of running errands, Barbara punches the Volvo into overdrive to see what happens when you get a hunk of metal going 88 miles per hour over a piece of wood built for Amish rush hour. Unbeknownst to our heroes, Benji is in the midst of a suicidal rampage. 30-years of sex, booze, and bitches has taken its toll on our beloved mutt. Now he is jumping in front of every speeding car he can. Poor Barbara doesn’t see him until it’s too late. One over-corrected swerve later and the Maitlands land themselves a one-way ticket to 1980s purgatory, and I get ready to laugh my haunted little ass off.
