In this episode, Catarah Coleman and Shoneji Robison, co-owners of Southern Girl Desserts, join Dimitrius to share the story behind the buildout of their second location, designed by Dimitrius. From pre-design to the turn over of keys, you'll hear about all the nuances of designing and building this bakery. We discuss Southern Girl Desserts backstory, complexities of designing a tenant improvement, a unique design configuration called a "ghost kitchen," the challenges of construction, and more!

Ricardo Meza, Development Associate at Asana Partners, who at the time was the Project manager at Primestor shares his insights from the perspective of the property manager.

Leandro Tyberg, President and Co-founder of Primestor, explains Primestor's approach to development including their community-centric approach to design, finding tenants, and employees.

Founded in 2007, Southern Girl Desserts is co-owned by Catarah Coleman and Shoneji Robison, who combined their family recipes to create a Southern cupcake and dessert arsenal. The women pride themselves on their time-honored recipes, learned through many years of home-cooking. Most recipes are family-inspired, but plenty flavor combinations are dreamed up by the Dessert Divas themselves. Coleman and Robison received national recognition when they competed on and won Food Network’s “Cupcake Wars.” The women were bestowed with a $10,000 prize and the opportunity to cater the Chicago Toy and Game Fair, a black-tie gala. The women are also featured for their celebrity dessert catering on E! Networks’s “L.A. Sugar," and recently introduced nationwide shipping.
