Marketing powerhouse and Forbes' "30 Under 30" Babba Rivera has worked at disruptive companies like Uber and Away, and made a name for herself in branding with her own agency, By.Babba.

In October 2020, Babba added another title to her resume: founder of Ceremonia, the clean hair care brand rooted in Latinx heritage. The brand’s first styling product, a super serum called the Pequi Curl Activator, dropped last week, joining a lineup that includes the heritage scalp remedy oil, Aceite de Moska.

Before launching, Babba was also celebrating the successful $1M pre-seed round she raised for Ceremonia, while pregnant and navigating the pandemic. Ceremonia’s launch made headlines, but Babba bravely shared her disappointment on her Instagram feed when a reputable business magazine focused on her favorite beauty products, rather than the VC funding she received.

Speaking of Babba’s fundraising journey, she shares her top tips for fellow founders looking to raise venture capital.

TL;DR -- Babba shares:

-Her tips as a first-time founder trying to fundraise & what investors are looking for in founders

-Why she called out the magazine that focused on her beauty routine rather than her business achievements

-Gender bias and sexism in the media, and why it’s problematic

-How her heritage as a Latina girl growing up in Sweden (without role models who looked like her) impacted her
