In this latest edition of ATP Extra, Millsy is joined by Neil, as they sit down with Everton fan favourite, Tony Grant, a local lad who lived the dream of playing for his boyhood club! In a fascinating episode we take a look back at Tony's time in football, from his childhood growing up in the city, supporting Everton in 1980's and his fond memories of the great Everton sides of the period, including discussion of the famous game against Bayern Munich, to his time as an Everton player and latterly, his career now as a coach. During his time at Everton, Tony played under Mike Walker, Joe Royle and Walter Smith, with all three managers getting discussed and Tony talking about his particular sadness on hearing the news of Joe Royle's sacking. Although not part of the 1995 FA Cup winning side, Tony played in the 4-1 Semi Final win against Spurs, which is covered, and he also mentions his relationships and opinions on some fellow players including Andrei Kanchelskis, Neville Southall, Kevin Campbell and Duncan Ferguson and the impacts that their leaving/signings had on the club and it's fans. Time spent under Steve McMahon at Swindon is covered, with the episode then progressing to talk about Tony's current career as a coach, with his views on the modern game, differences between academy and first team coaching, scouting for Steve Walsh and his opinion on Steves time at Everton, all notable points. The episode closes with a chat about Tony's continued ambitions in the game and his exciting new role, as assistant coach to Robbie Fowler at Brisbane Roar in Australia. An episode not to be missed by any Evertonian!
