The 1980s was the decade when many Asian American filmmakers began to come into their own, and started releasing feature films in Hollywood. A new series from the Criterion Channel spotlights those films. Brian Hu, artistic director of the Pacific Arts Movement, lead programmer of the San Diego Asian Film Festival and associate professor of Television, Film, and New Media at San Diego State University, curated the series, titled "Asian American '80s."
