Recently, Olympia Correspondent Jeanie Lindsay took a trip to the Skagit Valley. She was there to learn about one local newspaper – the La Conner Weekly News.

What she found was an editor and publisher looking to retire and sell the paper and a lot of difficulty finding a buyer.

Washington has lost around 20 percent of its newspapers since 2004, according to a report by the League of Women Voters.

That report also notes that small town newspapers are important tools that spur civic engagement and diminishes partisanship -- so what's next for the La Conner Weekly News.
