Orion Pictures released Arthur to theaters on July 17, 1981; grossing $81.5M worldwide. Steve Gordon directed the alcoholic comedy which starred Dudley Moore, Liza Minnelli, and John Gielgud. Arthur Movie Summary Arthur Bach is the original Paris Hilton; a rich socialite from a well-to-do family and a complete embarrassment to everything they stand for. This playboy is consistently cackling with a prostitute on one hand and a drink in the other. Arthur’s stuffy father and grandmother are hell-bent on marrying him off to Susan, the daughter of another powerful family. However, before that can happen, a petty thief named Linda steals his heart. Caught in the middle of this is Arthur’s trusty butler, Hobson. Behind his sardonic persona lies a man who cares for Arthur more than Arthur’s own father. He knows Arthur cannot survive without money and urges him to marry Susan. If he doesn’t, his family will cut him off from a $750 million inheritance. Instead he suggests that Linda become his sweet tart on the side.
