Wondering Questions:
At the beginning of this story, even though Peter and John had seen the empty tomb, the disciples were still afraid. They had locked themselves inside, and were hiding. I wonder why they were still confused, uncertain, scared on that very first Easter day?
I wonder how Jesus’s friends responded in the first moments when they saw that he was in the room? I wonder what their faces looked like?
I wonder how Jesus looked the same to them, after his death and resurrection? I wonder how he was different, now that he had been raised to new life?
I wonder how it felt, to see that Jesus was really alive? To see his chest take in air, and then feel the breath as he exhaled?
I wonder why Jesus’s first words, to his disciples and then later to Thomas, were “Peace be with you”?
Jesus said to Thomas, “Blessed are those who have not seen me, but have still believed.” Is that a hard thing for me to do? What do I want to say to God about that?
Can I ask God, right now, to help me hope and trust that these good words are true?
Prayer
Creator God, you gave your people this promise: “I will put my Spirit in you. And you will live again.” By your Spirit, you raised Jesus from the dead. Fill us with your living Spirit, and help us walk in your living ways.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
