We are 9 months out from the next Olympics in Tokyo, and plenty can still be done ahead of the Games. At the European Track Cycling Championships in the Netherlands, Great Britain won 9 medals including a gold and two silvers for Laura Kenny. Kenny will be attempting to upgrade to a triple gold medal winning haul in Tokyo, and we explain how she will tackle the task in terms of the newly available technology and preparation ahead of the event. Michael looks at how this year's event compares to previous European Track Championships at this stage in the Olympic cycle and suggests Great Britain are in good shape, whilst John wonders whether we will see Jason Kenny on top of the podium as an individual cyclist ever again following his 7th place finish. There's a lesson from British Olympic history which may help his cause...
In Athletics, Dina Asher-Smith was snubbed by the IAAF as they announced their shortlist for Female Athlete of the Year. John is astounded at their decision and thinks it is a major mistake, but Michael tries to explain the thought process of the governing body and examines the reasons why he thinks Dina was left off the list. Katarina Johnson-Thompson was one of the 11 listed.
Sir Andy Murray is back winning tennis tournaments despite career threatening surgery earlier this year. We have the details, plus a good event in Sydney for GB's para shooters, another accolade for Alice Tai, British Swimming announce their backroom team for Tokyo and ticket sales for the Paralympics look as though they will outstrip London.
Finally, Philip Barker from
insidethegames.biz joins us from Doha with all the details on Team GB's performance at the World Beach Games.
