Hi guys
Long time listener, I work third shift and never miss a show. I listen to tech podcast and they help my nights go by. I’m a really tight budget and I have not been able to contribute to your show financially but I do recommend it to all my Android friends and hopefully I’ve sent traffic your way. Had a recommendation for door new phone. Just a little background my wife is Filipino and we met in 2001 and ever since then I’ve been a phone importer to get around the carrier subscription trap. Travel to the Philippines many times in the last 20 years of marriage and a very familiar with Chinese Korean and Japanese phones. Right now I am currently using an umidigi f1
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07V36TXWT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_V9EBNNBX4ZQRFYY5V453
which I’m on my third umidigi phone and love their products bought it for $199 us on Amazon. If you look at the specs even though it’s a year and a half or so old still outspecs a lot of flagship phones that are on the market for a fraction of the cost. But my next phone is going to be the red magic 5G
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B087MCG6P4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_V6CND6XB1RAD0H97X845
If I won’t give you a big spiel and list all the specs but if you go there and look at it you’ll see for the price it outspecs $1,400 even $2,000 flagships. I know it’s a little bit on the high side for price that door is looking to be at but even if you go back to their second or third generation which is cheaper what I’ll expect a lot of the new flagships. The other phones I looked at before deciding on this one is the black shark, razor phone, and the wrong phone which I might have is too expensive for me. I settled on the red magic basically the tipping point is the 140 HZ refresh rate giant battery tons of RAM and it’s even liquid cooled how cool is that anyway just my suggestion take a look at them I’d like to hear you talk about some of the gaming phones and see what you think. Love the shows you guys keep up the good work friends call me Jocko I’m a fan for life. Thanks

I came across this video on Youtube, I have no way of actually confirming what they claim to have found, but if this is what is actually happening, I’m somewhat surprised.
I’ll attach a PDF version and page 14 has the final conclusions spelled out for those who get a headache from scrolling….. yes Door, I’m looking at you!
Alas, I don’t have the ability to confirm or deny the findings…. I don’t even know if the source is credible, honestly. But, while I’m good at turning stuff off when I setup a new browser, one never REALLY knows if it does what we think it does. As Door pointed out in the last AAA, the binary blobs in all these computers could be doing things we have no idea about.
I finally got my Carpe Iter controller (it was back ordered for weeks). It looks like a nice item, but alas… it’s a dud. The Joystick is missing feedback on 3 directions AND I cannot get a long press of the mysterious A button to bring up the HUD in the software. Worse yet, I had a hard time getting it paired and only succeeded on 1 of 4 devices, the other three don’t even see it. The bugger is that I got it via FedEX from Portugal and FedEX collected almost $50 in taxes I don’t want to pay again, so this is going to take some hashing out.
Looking forward to the next episode and I’ll try to make it for the live show this time.

Hey AAA crew, thanks for a great podcast, which I have been listening to for years. I have a question about showing the date on my Samsung Galaxy S9. Is there a way to permanently show the date in the notification & status bar area similar to how the time is always shown?
To me, this seems so fundamental that I can’t believe it is not an option (as far as I can see) in the Android/Samsung settings.
Note, a while back, I try various apps which indeed put the date (in various formats) in the notification & status bar area, but would be “pushed out” or moved as other notifications came in.
Basically, I am looking for the date to be displayed next to the time consistently / permanently.
Hope this makes sense.
Thanks,
Mike
