The West African Ashanti tribe have a rich oral tradition surrounding one central figure. Anansi is a spider, a man, a hero, a villain, a comedian, and a teller of serious truths. In our version, he begins as a god, the son of Nyame the sky god. He trades wits with his father, both demanding a series of favors from one another that escalate into madness. In the process, Anansi might just bring enlightenment to humanity.
