Amy Sherald painted the awesome official portrait of Michelle Obama that’s hanging in the National Portrait Gallery and she now has a new show at Hauser & Wirth in LA so we’re throwing back to our interview with her. We talk through the story around how she got the Michelle Obama commission and the artistic decisions she made in making that painting and we explore her life as a renowned portrait painter and as a heart transplant recipient who’s got someone else’s heart inside of her thanks to an operation that saved her life. She’s also a former rapper. And an all-around wonderful person. She’s an example of success coming to someone who believes in herself no matter what.
