Or it may not last very long. We break down every angle for the first half of the episode before diving into the fall release slate for Netflix, and the lineups announced for both Venice & TIFF before we finish with a few more updates on the awards season calendar. What does the shortened window do for arthouse films vying for awards, and can Focus Features benefit? What kind of blockbusters may agree to the 17 day window, or will ALL big money projects ride or die in theaters? Then speaking of theaters, what could a deal like this do to specialty, independent, and second run cinemas? There are so many questions. But we have A LOT of thoughts. Thankfully, Venice is no longer a total sausage fest, and we actually praise their announced lineup for a welcome change. We then go over the TIFF lineup, how it’s showcasing films from previous festivals, and all of this after we lay down the gauntlet with the Netflix awards slate and it’s latest release date for Rebecca.
