Contributor(s): Farzana Afridi, Diva Dhar | To mark International Women’s Day 2021, we explore how India can adopt more gender inclusive policy planning and implementation to manage the impact of COVID-19. Meet our speakers and chair Farzana Afridi is Lead Academic for IGC India and an Associate Professor in the Economics and Planning Unit at the Indian Statistical Institute in Delhi. Her areas of interest are education, health, gender, and political economy. Diva Dhar (@diva_dhar) is a Senior Program Officer with the Gender Equality team at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, where she leads a portfolio of grants on gender data, measurement and evidence with a focus on East Africa and South Asia. She was previously with the Measurement, Learning and Evaluation team at the Gates Foundation, leading work on health, nutrition, youth and gender in India. Prior to joining the foundation, Diva worked for over a decade in public policy evaluation research, capacity building and use for J-PAL, Innovations for Poverty Action, World Bank, Planning Commission of India and other non-profit organizations. Naila Kabeer (@N_Kabeer) is Professor of Gender and Development at the Department of Gender Studies and Department of International Development. Her research interests include gender, poverty, social exclusion, labour markets and livelihoods, social protection and citizenship and much of her research is focused on South and South East Asia. Naila is currently involved in ERSC-DIFD Funded Research Projects on Gender and Labour Market dynamics in Bangladesh and India.
