Submit ReviewA poll of registered Asian-American and Pacific Islander American voters released this summer revealed that a majority of respondents had never actually been contacted by canvassers from either political party. While AAPI share of the electorate remains small compared to other racial groups, AAPI is the fastest-growing racial or ethnic group in the country, and between 2016 and 2020, the rate of voter turnout for AAPI increased more than other racial or ethnic group.
We talk with Jane Junn, professor of political science and gender studies at the University of Southern California, about patterns in AAPI voting behavior, issues that mobilize voters, and what these numbers could mean for the midterms.
