“Oh my God he’s going into the stands!!” Some of the most famous words ever spoken during a sports brawl (or really just sports in general), leading to one of the most infamous brawls in sports history: The Malice at the Palace. At a time when the NBA was a little more hard-nosed and fights were more common, the nation was shocked on the evening of November 19th, 2004 when a certain someone threw a cup of beer at a player, and the rest, as they say, is history. This week Kalvin and Nick are back to discuss an epic moment in sports history that had reverberations that spread throughout the rest of the NBA and continue to affect the game today. We dive into the twists and turns of an infamous series of events that spanned only a few minutes, but to the players and fans, both present and at home felt like an eternity. Harsh punishments were handed out, punches were thrown, players were doused in beer, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Don’t forget to stay tuned for a bonus preview episode of the 2020 NBA All-Star contest on the heels of this episode, and while you’re at it join the discussion on Twitter @APASomething and @alone_podcast and let us know what you think about the Malice at the Palace, and if you remember where you were when history was made!
