Hurst Lecture Series: US Senator Mitch McConnell, senior Republican from Kentucky, in conversation with Aspen Institute President and CEO Walter Isaacson. I shared this for a few reasons. Initially I listened to find out how the republican mind thinks, and a reasonable conversation is a great way to get that information. Then as I listened I realized that this Mitch is not todays Mitch. This Mitch is pre-Trump. Touting bipartisan accomplishments, and speaking conservatively but in a manor that really showed he was proud of the way in which the Senate was being run under him.It left me with the question. Where did Mitch and the other Republicans go? I understand that republicans saw Obama as running ruff shot over the process, pushing things through, and as well see that Mitch sees trump as payback for Obama. But Mitch, if you read this please know. Trump is bad at a fundamental level. Even conservatives that agree with you on policy, can’t continue this course of political vengeance. Obama was mean to Republicans, but Trump has been worse to Democrats and in much less time. Is there a point where we can call this shit even? Mitch said here that a bill could come out of committee and any one could propose amendments, Democrats did more often and he seemed proud of that. He also said that he fought for input and debate when it came to the Iran deal. “Because it was important for America to know and understand” Transparency in government that made us all proud. Now. Nothing leaves committee, Nothing is debated, and Americans are dying because Gun reform isn’t as important as SOME Iran deal. Mitch. At some point whether I agreed with you or not, I believe you were a honest protector of the system. Defender of the process, and a guardrail to malicious activities. You are not, or are not any longer. America can not survive the game you are playing. Goodbye. You are up for reelection in 2020. Your state doesn’t want you, and your impact on America and our history is devastating. You are an old man that sees victory in obstruction, and are uncaring as to your affects on the people represented by congress. People have died because of your decisions, and more will be killed before action is taken. Because of your obstruction.
