With Paris fashion week just gone, you've probably seen images of fashion house Schiaparelli's fake lion's head, fastened to the strapless black gown of Kylie Jenner.
The history of shock-factor runway is a long and complicated one and the changes in runway are directly linked to changes in the world on a global scale: a rise in technology, war, pandemics, and even inflation.
Ricarda Bigolin is Associate Dean of Fashion and Textile Design RMIT University, she examines the runway gimmicks of past; from Rick Owens' human backpack in 2015, where models were sent down the runway wearing each other….to the famous 1999 Alexander McQueen runway show, where Shalom Harlow stood on a rotating platform while two robots spray-painted a white dress.
