If I were running a major American movie studio, I’d want to make Matthew Krentz’s apprenticeship as an indie filmmaker short. In other words, I’d want to be in business with this handsome, talented young auteur. That was my second thought after watching , the new film written, directed, produced and starring Krentz as John Hogan, a white, Irish, junior college basketball player looking for opportunity, survival and someone with whom he can take long, thoughtful walks. MATTHEW KRENTZ podcast excerpt: "I didn't go to film school... I didn't purchase (film) books because I didn't have any money. I used local bookstores as a library... I moved to Utah. Later I was invited to work at the filmmaker labs at the Robert Redford Resort. They wouldn't let me on set because I had no background. So I applied as a driver. From a driver, I became an intern. Five years later they offered me the art director of the Institute. I literally was a fly on the wall at every opportunity. I spent a lot of time listening to a lot of talented filmmakers... It's an underdog story from beginning to end." My first thought after finishing Streetballers was “Wow. I want everybody to see this movie.” Joining me today is Matthew Krentz and his co-producer Craig Thomas.
