I’m a sci-fi guy. I can track my love of the gere back to original 1960s airings of classic “Star Trek,” many of which scared the crap out of me – the episode titled “The Cage” in particular. After that, I discovered old sci-fi movies on the 13-inch black-and-white TV in my bedroom, where I would watch such films on Saturday and Sunday afternoons – when the Mets weren’t playing – and late at night, when I should have been asleep. Such was the wonder of UHF TV channels and rabbit-ears in the 1970s. SLOAN DE FOREST podcast excerpt: "There are a lot of sci-fi reboots that make the original look primitive." And no, I can’t trade lines from the movies, nor can I recall a lot of character names. But what I would do then – and still do today – is join any sci-fi movie in progress as I flip through the channels. I like the aliens, the exotic scenery and the spaceships, from "Metropolis" and "The Day the Earth Stood Still" on through "Planet of the Apes" and "The Martian."
