“When you have a face that isn't easy to place like mine, you will always get the second question. The first being where are you from? And the second, where are you really from? And you realise very early on, once you go through the whole thing of I just want to belong, and I don't like being asked that question because it points out my difference of embracing the role that you have of telling your own story in the rooms that you walk into. And so that really formed an impression on me from a young age, the power of stories to connect people.”

About Kay Fabella:
Kay Fabella is a DEI Consultant whose approach combines inclusion, intercultural communication and her understanding of supporting global teams in a remote environment. She’s partnered with companies including Red Hat, Instagram, the IMF, and Philips to improve inclusive communication skills between team members, to retain top talent and reduce turnover, and to build a culture of inclusion that helps companies maintain their competitive edge in the future of work.
A Filipina American in Spain since 2010, Kay draws from her own lived experiences as a "multihyphenate" woman of colour, a daughter of immigrants, and an immigrant herself running a fully remote team to inform her DEI work. She believes that more inclusive workplace cultures start with sharing non-linear stories — to expand worldviews and increase connectivity and collaboration.
