Today’s guest is Paul Harris, editor, proprietor and chief executive of the Jewish Telegraph newspaper. My own modest fiftieth anniversary episode is overshadowed by a more significant birthday, the Jewish Telegraph, the north of England (and Scotland’s) foremost community newspaper is 70. Paul Harris is the editor, proprietor and chief executive. Every week - and for the last seventy years, he and his mother and father before him have published the newspaper. Started in Manchester on their dining room table with a borrowed typewriter and £50 capital, it’s grown into a newsroom and advertising platform with 4 regional offices in Manchester, Glasgow, Leeds and Liverpool. He regales us with some great stories over the years involving Yasser Arafat, Michael Jackson and Sharon Osbourne, although they weren’t all in the same room together! If I told you the one about Paul interviewing the PLO leader inside his Tunis compound while on a family holiday and who he took into the terrorist leader’s cage with him, you'd never believe me. Paul will have to tell you. “Hold my beer, hold the front page!” 😆 Listen to the life, career and newspaper of Paul Harris!
