Charles Ardai was a guest on Mr. Media just a few weeks back, here to talk about his yeoman’s work tracking down, restoring and in some ways completing novelist James M. Cain’s lost, final manuscript, The Cocktail Waitress. He was telling me that his book imprint, Hard Case Crime – which published Stephen King’s short story, “The Colorado Kid,” on which the Syfy series “Haven” is based – will be bringing out a new King book in 2013. As often happens during these conversations, in that moment I learned something completed unrelated but of great interest to me, personally: CHARLES ARDAI podcast excerpt: "For a TV show, a story that poses a lot of unanswered questions and doesn't tie them up in a bow is really quite appealing; you have reasons to come back next week and there is more to discover."  In addition to being the co-founder and editor of the Hard Case Crime imprint, Ardai is also a consulting producer to “Haven,” the wicked cool supernatural drama on the Syfy network. It stars the beautiful and haunting Emily Rose – who you might recognize from HBO’s “John from Cincinnati” or ABC’s “Brothers and Sisters,” as “Audrey Parker,” Lucas Bryant as “Sheriff Nathan Wuornos,” and, as bad boy Duke Crocker, “Six Feet Under” veteran Eric Balfour. (Balfour incidentally, was a guest on Mr. Media late in the first season of “Haven,” and it’s a great interview if you haven’t heard it yet.) So with the third – and best-yet -- season of “Haven” reaching a crescendo, I invited Ardai to come right back to talk about his moonlighting in TV as well as to tell us a little more about Hard Case Crime.
