December 8, 1980. 10:50 pm. John Lennon--the former Beatle and music industry icon--returned to his Manhattan apartment building with his wife, Yoko Ono after a long evening of recording down town. As Lennon walked toward his building, a young man approached him from behind. Lennon had met this man just a few hours before--he'd signed an autograph for him while another man took a picture. This time, the young man had a gun. He raised it and fired five shots, all but one of them hitting Lennon in the back.
