That's the part she auditioned for.
She tried her best. Did everything she could to convey to them that she was perfect for the part. But after three months, she still hadn't heard anything. Never giving up hope, she reached out to them, asking if she was still in the running for the part. They said, "We have real actresses auditioning for this part. You don't call us; we call you."
She cried in discouragement, knowing that her hope of being in the movie was over.
Days passed. And during those days, she did all she could to make peace with it, but she couldn't. She was overwhelmed with emotions. Until something came over her and she heard a song. A song that changed everything.
The movie was The Color Purple, and she is Oprah Winfrey.
