Dairy farmers are taking a calculated business risk not to invest to stop pollution because the chances of being fined are so tiny. That's the findings of an Environment Agency report looking into river pollution, revealed by a freedom of information request by the Guardian. Two thirds of farms in Devon were found to be causing pollution when inspected by the Environment Agency; the inspections were carried out on 187 farms between 2016 and 2020.
