- Jun 11, 2020
- Episode Duration |
- 00:41:46
On today’s episode, Amanda talks to Melissa DePino and Michelle Saahene, the women responsible for the viral video of two black men unjustly arrested in a Philadelphia Starbucks. DePino and Saahene became fast friends and began Privilege To Progress, a national movement to desegregate the public conversation about race. DePino and Saahene explain why they decided to start an anti-racism movement with a relative stranger. They offer advice for how we can grow our understanding of each other’s experiences without creating more distance between us and the concept of “white identity development.” Finally, they explain how to productively use social media to promote anti-racism and share why they are still disappointed in Starbucks’ “efforts” at diversity and inclusion.
