Dennis Schröder underwent surgery on his thumb Monday, and will be out of action for around a month. It's hard to know exactly what this does to the team's rotation - not much was solidified during the preseason, and he only played nine minutes of it, anyway - but Schröder's absence does potentially free up minutes for a crowded backcourt, and might even give Darvin Ham an easier opening to just start Westbrook on the bench on opening night. And if that's the direction Ham wants to go anyway, better to put him there now, before it looks like a demotion. (Or more of a demotion, at least.)
