Jenny Dorsey, a chef and activist, who founded and runs Studio ATAO, a nonprofit that creates immersive experiences at the center of food, art, and social impact, joins the podcast to talk with Kevin about how and why she’s using food and technology to make social impact. Sponsorship Message: the All of Us Research Program, managed by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), is the largest and most diverse health resource ever, working specifically to better represent groups who have been left out of medical research in the past (People of Color, seniors, rural residents, low income folks, and the LGBTQ community). As the COVID-19 pandemic has exposed, racial disparities are real, severe, and sadly not new in our country. While almost 40% of the US is made up of people of color, medical research is 80 to 90% white! This medical research disparity is affecting many Asian American communities — in fact, 19.4% of Asian adults compared to 12.9% of white adults report being without a usual source of health care like a personal doctor. So increasing diversity and representation in medical research is key to building a healthier, more equitable country. To support the All of Us research program, please join their research program by signing up via the link: joinallofus.org/mmp. They are a trusted organization, managed by NIH, and works with reputable institutions like Scripps Research and Mayo Clinic. By signing up, you may also get a $25 gift card, or 1 of 10,000 Fitbits to be distributed later this year to help with the research, your genetic ancestry results, and ultimately help the under-represented be better represented!
