Following press reports suggesting that Radio 4's Long Wave transmissions were vulnerable because they used valves which could not be replaced, Dennis Nolan - Network Manager at Radio 4 - appeared on the station's Feedback programme to explain there was little to worry about immediately. He suggested they might even last ten years...  It is suggested that the bill for electricity alone is £1/3m pa - and that there are 90,000 Long Wave listeners.
