One part of the mental load that Danielle spoke about in episode #159 is all the emotional and physical burdens that are inherent in being born female; the expectations of just carrying on with life even though we may be suffering from exacerbated periods, issues getting pregnancy, being pregnant, losing a pregnancy, postpartum....the list goes on and on. Marriage and Martinis is starting a series delving into all these aspects of life and how they affect individuals, couples, and other close relationships. In the first episode in this series, Danielle and Adam sat down with Dr. Loree Johnson, to discuss all things related to pregnancy loss, including topics of guilt, shame, misconceptions, grief, and hopefully, healing. Dr. Loree helps people overcome the emotional challenges that come with infertility, including pregnancy loss and emotional trauma. Some issues the three of them discuss are

  • How to best support someone who has experienced pregnancy loss (what to say and cliches to avoid)
  • Understanding the guilt oftentimes felt by the mother after losing a pregnancy
  • Why grieving a loss is natural and normal no matter how far into the pregnancy it occurs
  • Why finding and working with the right doctor is absolutely essential
  • Ways we grieve throughout the day that might not manifest as grief
