The pair sat down to talk during the Tour Down Under and Mitch reveals that Andre has been a long-time listener to the Life in the Peloton podcast and asked when he would be invited to be a guest on the show. Mitch starts by asking Andre about an unusual race victory – his only pro win that came from a breakaway – and then the pair talk about his early days in East Germany, his rise to become one of the fastest men in the world, his internal team rivalry with Mark Cavendish and what has kept him at the top for so long. It was commissioned by the production company behind Channel 4’s coverage of the Tour de France in the 1980s and was used as the theme music for the nightly highlights show. Pete died in December 2018. We were given permission by Pete’s widow and his manager to continue using the music for the theme tune to Life in the Peloton.
