For all the success that Marvel had in "Phase One" of their superhero universe, they still knew that the biggest risk was going to be Thor, in fact this was the one character who's sequel was going to be contingent on their first outings performance. Thor performed well enough with the critics and fans meaning that a second film would be in the cards for Marvel.
