Anything can happen on the Tour de France, as stage 19 proved. A dramatic, remarkable and astonishing day ended with a new leader of the race and the withdrawal of one of the French favourites.
Richard Moore spent the afternoon in a helicopter, while Lionel Birnie and François Thomazeau drove to Tignes – where the stage was supposed to finish – through a torrential rainstorm not realising that conditions behind them were even worse.
Hail stones and a landslide caused the stage to be cut short and for a while no one knew what was going to happen.
This episode of The Cycling Podcast captures the chaose and confusion of the day and we hear reaction from Team Ineos boss Dave Brailsford after his young rider Egan Bernal took the yellow jersey.
