When I booked Rachel Ann Weiss on the show a few weeks ago, I did it based entirely on listening to music from her debut album, Dear Love. Give it a listen – her voice is absolutely beautiful and compelling. Thing is, I didn’t read her bio at all. I committed to having her on and inviting her to perform because I really liked her voice. RACHEL ANN WEISS podcast excerpt: "My dad had a country band--he made me play 'Achy Breaky Heart.' I'm gonna hold that against him till the day I die!" So when I finally did read up on Rachel Ann, I stopped dead when I got to the line, “As the daughter of strong supporters of the arts, Rachel's parents, actress Kathleen Turner and Jay Weiss...” That stopped me dead. WTF? The Kathleen Turner? Body Heat Kathleen Turner? Prizzi’s Honor Kathleen Turner? Peggy Sue Got Married Kathleen Turner? Sometimes I really crack myself up. And while the bluesy, smoky voice makes sense if you grew up on sexy, smoldering, attitudinal Kathleen Turner movies, I would have never made the connection without being told. Rachel Ann Weiss will have to make good on her career promise based on her own talents as a singer and songwriter, on the choices she makes as her own person. And you know what? She’s off to a helluva good start.   Rachel Ann Weiss • • • • • •
