I last interviewed rock guitarist Bobby Friss in 1988. Something his father told him and he shared with me that day about being a professional has always stated with me: “On time, in tune, and with clean hair.” Such a simple, elegant approach to guiding a career and yet so many people – especially in the world of music – don’t get it and don’t do it. And I'm having more fun than I've ever had" I don’t know where all of the other musicians I interviewed in 1988 are today, but Bobby Friss – leader of the Bobby Friss Band – is still rockin’ in the free world, touring the nation and playing as many or more gigs a year as he did then. He is sustained by the quality of his songs and the reliability of his credo. Oh, and corporate support didn’t hurt, either, when, in 1987, Miller Genuine Draft began sponsoring the Bobby Friss Band alongside the Fabulous Thunderbirds and Del Fuegos.
