The Government claims the Australian trade deal will help more than hinder, but farming groups aren’t so sure. The Environment Food and Rural Affairs committee of cross-party MPs has been scrutinising the new UK-Australia trade deal. On the one hand, the Government says it’ll increase the size of the UK economy by £2.3 billion, but there are concerns this will be done by cutting import tax tariffs on Australian goods making them cheaper, and the Government’s own analysis also shows domestic agriculture, forestry and fisheries will lose £94 million as a result of the deal. We hear about a combination of Countryfile and Top Gear: BBC 3’s new tractor racing show which starts this evening, The Fast and The Farmer-ish. As part of our week looking at livestock markets, we hear how the Livestock Auctioneers Association is attracting young blood into the trade, running courses which attract 15 trainees a year. Presented by Anna Hill and produced by Beatrice Fenton.
